Vacuum press rolls 

Vacuum press rolls are widely used in medium and high-speed paper machines, and their structure is basically the same as that of vacuum couch rolls. The roll shell is cast from bronze or stainless steel, and the shell thickness is determined by the required rigidity and strength.

 

In high-speed paper machines, after the water is sucked out of the felt and wet paper through the holes in the roll, it passes through the vacuum dewatering zone almost instantaneously before reaching the vacuum chamber, and is then thrown into the white water tray by the centrifugal force of the roll.

 

The function of the vacuum chamber is only to extract air from the holes in the roll shell. The thicker the roll shell, the greater the volume of air that needs to be extracted. Using a vacuum press roll with a thinner roll shell made of high-strength metal is beneficial for improving dewatering efficiency during pressing.

The shell of the vacuum press roll is covered with a 30-40mm thick layer of rubber. This rubber covering ensures even pressure distribution, reduces wear on the felt, and increases the pressure at the nip.
